Mishmash

Hm, the last informative post I did was over 10 days ago. Seems like I need to get on the ball! :)

It's been rather hectic around here the past while. With Dad being sick, Mom has been gone most of the time, so Abi and I have been "playing" house. :) Not. We are "living" house. :)

(If you haven't heard about Dad and would like to know what's going on, just comment on this post and leave you email address. I'll send you old updates and keep you updated as new info comes in.)

I can't think of anything else to write, so, here goes!

Tomatoes!

Abi and I washed and froze around #60 of potatoes one day. Well, we washed one day and cut them up another day. :)

Aren't dresses handy?

We have an over abundance of wasps, ground hornets, bumble bees and sweat bees this year. The wasps were attracted by our water, so we took rather drastic measures in making them feel unwelcome...

There's nothing like listening to good ol' O'Neill Brothers' CDs while your working!

And... Drum roll, please... Tuh-Dah! Talitha finally had her calf. Yes, you heard that right.

She was in labor all night, but around 4:30 am, she popped a healthy little bull calf!

He is adorable! BTW, his name is "Buster."

Ah, the long awaited "real" milk!

Abi decided to separate Talitha and the calf. We didn't have a bottle or a nipple for a calf, but we did have an old Mountain Dew bottle and a sheep nipple. It worked just fine!

A pretty little bird flew right into the glass on the window. Poor thing was rather rattled.

Last Thursday morning a pretty good storm moved through. Abi and I were on our way into Griswold to clean a house when this picture was taken. We called the boys and asked them to run to the corner to take pictures. It was the neatest storm! It looked like a wall cloud, this being the front. Once we reached Griswold, we got on the other side of it. Was that ever interesting! I was almost ready to abandon the cleaning job and go storm chaseing as it looked green and pretty bad farther south. :)

Abi and Sam made our first batch of butter! This is how we always made butter when we were little. It was Abi and my job to milk the cow, wash and bleach everything, and make the butter. This brought back so many memories of being too short to see into the blender and having to kneel on a chair.

Look at the difference between store bought butter and Tito butter! It's almost uncanny.

I guess I was feeling nostalgic last week... This Toll House Pie is another childhood memory for me. We hardly ever had it, but oh, was it ever a treat when we did!

Someone left the chicken's gate open...

Abi and I have been shopping around awhile for curtains to replace the ugly old ones in our room. We finally found these at the Red Oak Shopko. They were originally over $40 dollars a pair, but we found them on sale. :)

Katelyn came over one day. We just couldn't resist the temptation to take her hair down. :)

Look at those curls!

Wearing Grandma's glasses on the wrong side... :)

Looking at books with Uncle KK

I put her hair in braids later. They didn't turn out very well as she wiggles around so much and her hair is extremely soft and slippery. It probably would've helped if I'd wet her hair.

Ryan brought something over to the house Saturday morning, bringing with him a rather disheveled Bug. :) Ry said she could stay with us. Thus began a very fun day. :)

I gave her these sunglasses to play with.

Sweet trusting baby hand...

Gawking at Buster

Look at those eyes!

Not quite the right place for sunglasses, but hey, when your 2, everything goes!

At the beginning of the video she's telling me what a chicken says. She said, "It's going to say, 'Elephant'!" She also said, "Hi, chickens! Hi, there, chickens!" :)

She wanted to wear Abi's flip-flops. :)

We found a grass hopper and told her to touch it. She never did touch it with her bare hands, but she would touch it with a stick, or, in the case of this picture, a grilling tool. :)By the time she got done "touching" it, the poor beggar was a little worse for wear.

Abi decided to sell Buster. She's hoping to get a beef calf at some point.

Someone contacted Abi almost right away, and he was sold the day after Abi posted him on Craigslist! He went to a wonderful home! The lady that bought him is keeping him as a pet. Jerseys aren't very good for meat anyway.

Sam was very sad to see Buster go. He got pretty attached to that little calf in the week that we had him.

I guess that's all for now, folks!
