When I Survey the Wondrous Cross

Abi and I did some studying on the crucifixion of Jesus last summer. This medical perspective puts the crucifixion on a more understandable level. It affected us beyond words. There's a song that goes "...With trembling voice, I confess your redeeming love, my unworthiness. That cruel cross, the nails, the spear, yet merciful, Lord, I'm moved to tears..."

May we never loose our view of the awful beauty of the cross.

Love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all.

When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.

Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
Save in the death of Christ my God!
All the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them to His blood.

See from His head, His hands, His feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down!
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were a present far too small;
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.

  1. Such a great post. I watched the medical perspective, and that was super neat! I never no that about the sweating blood. That's crazy!
