Emmetsburg, Iowa

The week after Bible School was a full one, but the highlight of the week was our trip to Emmetsburg, IA. Emmetsburg was originally an Irish settlement and still boasts of a large Irish population. Emmetsburg is named in honor of Robert Emmet, one of the leading rebels in the Irish uprisings of 1798 and 1803. The 1803 rebellion aborted, causing the capture, trial for high treason against the king, and execution of Emmet by the British.

Gram, Mom, Abi, and I have been wanting to explore the town for quite awhile now. As you know, anything Irish is highly interesting to us.

We stopped at a Dunkin Donuts in Carroll, IA for coffee and donuts. Abi and I got Oreo cheesecake donuts and hazelnut cappuccino. :)

Mom wore her Irish sweater for the special occasion. :)

Emmetsburg is centered around the southern bay of Five Island Lake. It was very beautiful!

The only Irish shop in Emmetsburg, called, "Emmetsburg Irish Gifts."

Not quite, but it does seem that way at times. :)

I bought this beautiful picture at the Irish gift shop. Their stuff was decently priced compared to other Irish stores we've been to! We were impressed by the prices. :)

Some of the guys in our family have a problem with being "hangry." :)

Some of these pictures were taken at another cute store called, "Etc."

I thought that I should put the picture of the Martin girls and Abi and I in this frame, but when I checked the price tag, I decided it wasn't worth it. :D

We stopped in at a small bakery in Emmetsburg called, "Your Family Bakery." They had some pretty amazing looking stuff!

A&W for lunch! Who doesn't have childhood memories of A&W corn dogs and root beer floats? Definitely one of the most nostalgic restaurants.

My chili cheese fries

After we were done shopping, we took time to drive around part of Five Island Lake. It was very idyllic, but extremely windy!

Abi just loved this house! She said it was her dream house. :)

We had a lovely time in Emmetsburg! We'll definitely be going back sometime!

 Bonus Picture!
