At the Rock Cut With Smiths

The Smith family came out Saturday (Aug. 10). Micah had asked to be baptized, and since we were having a baptism, they came out here. (Next post up, baptism pictures)

Smith's arrived in time for lunch. With the empty afternoon yawning before everyone, it was suggested that we go to the Rock Cut. So, off we headed for some old fashioned fun!

That morning, KK was out taking bird pictures.

I think he did a great job! (After a little photo editing on my part) :)

On the way!

It's quite the walk back there, but when you're in good company it seems short.

Skipping rocks

I'm not sure what this was, but it looked neat lying half buried in the sand.

Aaron and Johnny

Johnny couldn't pitch the rocks quite high enough to make it over the heads in front of him. Sam got beaned before I could stop Johnny. By the time I got over to Sam his head had swelled up about a 1/2" off his head. It reminded me of cartoons when they get hit and it swells up on top of their head with a little patch of hair on top. :)  Poor Johnny was close to tears, he felt so bad.

Yes, they actually went swimming in that disgusting river!

They're swimming in the slower part of the rapids. Even though the river was down pretty low, the boys said that the current was very strong here.

Aaron in his drowning pose. :)

The river had high and low parts (whatever that's called). Here, the boys are sitting in about 5-6" of water. Other parts had 3-4' of water.

Out of the blue, huge carp started jumping out of the water. The next several pictures show them. You might want to click on the pictures when you're done to see them bigger.

Flying high
Watch for the flying carp in the pictures!

Most of the splashes you see are from a carp taking off or landing. Some of them even skipped across the water like a skipping rock!

Look close and you'll see a huge one flying right in front of Grace.

Explosion!

Elarie just missed catching one.

Wow! With how that splash looks and the distance it looks like that carp jumped, it must've been a big one!

The biggest carp we saw was about 3' long, and this is no fish story!

Look what we found washed up on the rocks. :)

Which rock picture did you like best? I couldn't decide, so I put both on here.

Sam found a fresh water gar in one of the cracks in the rocks. It looks like a dinosaur.

Bubblebee

Back at Ry & Kels, we had brownies and ice cream, and of course, lots of talking and fun. :)

Sweeter, smiling for Grandpa Smith

Dad and Mark switched glasses. Dad says he thinks he might get round frames like Mark's next time he gets new ones. :)
