Texas Vacation- Day 6

Day Six, New Years Day, was so much fun! Ok, everyday of our vacation was fun... Nate and Gin were on cook duty that day. They made us some really yummy meals! After breakfast, we gathered for "church." We spent some time singing, then listened to a message by Eric Ludy. It was very refreshing getting our focus back on the Lord. Not that we'd taken our eyes off of Him, but vacations tend to be very distracting.
After our "church," a few people went swimming while Nate and Gin prepared lunch. Directly after lunch, we left for a dolphin cruise. That was amazing!
Later that afternoon, we hit the beach again! 👍

Another sunrise on a gorgeous day!

Better take your lens cap off, KK.

Making the amazing breakfast of...

... Almanzo Pancakes!

Later, after church, while we were waiting for lunch...

They made refreshing grilled chicken salads. It was scrumptious!

Waiting for our boat to be ready
It cost $30 to go on the dolphin watch, but I thought it was worth the money just for the boat ride!

We used Woody's Sports Center in Downtown Port Aransas.

They have pirate ships where the sailors are dressed as pirates. It sounded pretty fun, actually.

Out to sea!

We loved it when the skipper would hit other ships' wake. You'd go up and up and then crash down.

There were a lot of cormorants, pelicans, sandhill cranes and seagulls

This barge was huge!

The Port Aransas lighthouse, only accessible by boat.

They had several crabs stowed away on the ship.

This breaker was covered in pelicans!

The deck hand, T.J., threw out the drag nets to see if we could catch anything. It was a fascinating process!

Mr. T.J. had had a run in with a shark, or so he said. We weren't sure if it was a fish story or not, but, it was still a nice spicy story! He said he caught a shark once, but when they pulled it up on deck, it freaked out. As they tried to control it, somehow it ended up poking his eye out, biting his left index finger off, breaking his collar bone and dislocating his shoulder. He was quite the salty old tar. 😉

Beef and Lynna were fascinated by the fish he pulled up!

This crab had lost its pitchers somewhere along the way so Mr. T.J. said it was safe to be handled.

A shrimp

This puffer fish was so puffed up that he couldn't even swim!

Katelyn very proudly, but gingerly, held the shrimp.

Dad and Mr T.J. got along very well!

Grandpa with his girls 💕

It was a superb day!

The good ship, Mustang.

These dried shark tales were nailed onto somebody's dock.

We went out for ice cream after the dolphin cruise. I don't even remember what the place was called, but they had good ice cream! I don't recommend their coffee shakes, I thought they were kinda bland, but their scoop ice cream was excellent!

They got to pick which ice cream they wanted, which made them feel very grown up.

Back on the beach!

The water was pretty chilly that afternoon.

While we were gone, Nate and Gin made this satisfying supper of chicken noodle soup, garlic bread and scones. It sure was good after our cold plunge in the ocean!

KK took this picture of the old fashioned light bulbs in the chandeliers.

Awe! Our little sailor!

Check out that afro! The humidity made life ever so slightly miserable to those of us with frizzy hair.

So ends a satisfying day...
