The Sagging Homestead ~ House #4

The first 3 abandoned places were explored in the morning. We decided to head back home for a lunch break, then go out again.

While searching for houses down Leon's way after lunch, we all thought this B road looked picturesque enough to go down. Too late, we realized that this "B" road should have been marked as a "C" road. It was really bad! We had to do a little off roading (on the road) to turn around because we wouldn't have been able to keep going. :)

It was marching on towards evening when we finally stumbled upon this house.

The foundation was sagging a little. Maybe a foot or so...

Can you see the house sagging over on the right?

Guests need to pay close attention when they walk into this house...

Yes, yes, I know I have a weakness for doorknobs. It just seems like they could tell one so many interesting stories... Stories of love and laughter, sorrow and joy...

Tumbled furniture

See the sag on the left?

I love it when there's still a curtain hanging!

Somebody had gutted the bathroom. I took this picture through a hole in the wall.

The old fashioned pump still worked!

Here's Gracie pumping the pump.

The porch was a little worse for the wear.

Curving stairs again.

Upstairs bedroom

The boys thought this floor dropped about 2 ft because of the sag.

When I finally stepped outside, I was met by a shouting mob of 3 little people. "Emmie! Emmie! Come 'ere! You gotta see this! It's an outhouse with a pink toilet seat!"

Sure enough, a 3 seater with a pink toilet seat. :)

Just after I took this picture of Brie and Sam, as they went through the door, KK jumped out and scared them.

This foundation definitely has some issues.

The cement floor was cracked and buckled along this one wall. We wondered if maybe it was a water line break, or maybe a tree root. Any ideas?

You can see that this wall has been patched up a time or two.

I was captivated by these warm colors that the setting sun brought out in this shed.

"Sunset and evening star, and one clear call for me..."

All done!

A tired, but happy group. :)
